Simple, FREE Solutions
***The AutoSavers work with Office 2007 too!***
The AutoSavers
The Office 2003 applications - specifically Excel, Word and PowerPoint - don't
have an auto-save feature. They DO have an auto-recover function in case the
application crashes but, it doesn't always work. In response to a few friends
losing some work, I decided to create a collection of AutoSaver
Utilities.
These little utilities will prompt you to Save all your Excel, Word or
PowerPoint (depending on which one(s) you have running) documents at an interval
you set. Simply start the utility by double clicking the EXE file and then input
how many minutes you would like between prompts to Save. You can run all of them
at the same time and put in different time intervals for each - it's up to you.
You won't be asked for a file name unless it's a new document you haven't saved
yet in which case you will choose where to save it and what to call it. If at
any point you answer no to the prompt to save, no saving will be done and the
utility will stop running. You can restart it at any time.
***Important to Remember***
Once you Save your work in Excel or PowerPoint you will be unable to click Undo.
This is a feature of the Office programs not the AutoSaver Utilities.
Add-A-Launcher
This little program will add a shortcut or "Launcher" to the menu you see when
you right click on folders or on the Windows Start button. Unzip the enclosed
file and run the Add-A-Launcher..exe program. You will first need to fill in a
name for your Launcher. This will be what shows up in the menu. Next you will
browse to the .EXE you want the Launcher to start. You will be given the chance
to test your Launcher and if you like it, keep it. If you don't like it or it
doesn't start the program the way you want, answer No and the Launcher will be
removed.
I find it helpful to have some of the applications I use available in this way
and I hope some of you will too.
Simple IPconfig
IP what? Ever have a computer guy ask you what your IP address is or, even
worse, your MAC address? Well never fear, just have this handy little tool ready
to run and have the information you need. Simple IPconfig will tell you Host
name, your IP address, the network card all this stuff is associated with, your
domain name (or workgroup), your MAC address and if you got your address from
DHCP (either a server or possible your home router).
Little Memory Tool
Quickly see how much memory is installed in your system! Our little Memory Tool
will tell you the capacity of each piece of memory in your computer. It will
also report the speed of the memory as well as which slot in your system it's
installed in. Want to know if both the slots in your laptop are filled without
opening the case? Run cbsarge's Little Memory Tool and save the aggrevation!
Processor Info Tool
Get a quick answer to your processor questions! This little tool will display the
CPU socket number, the manufacturer, the speed of the processor, the friendly model
name and the L2 cache size! Best of all - you won't feel a thing!
